Area of Design Focus: Residential and Commercial Design

As a decorator, Jane Waggoner's goal is to help people create a unique expression of their individual taste in a manner that is easy for them, affordable and distinctive. The most important aspect of any project is the client and their space.

Jane began her career working in museums, at both the Museum of Modern Art in New York City and the Dallas Museum of Art. Working closely with artists and around art is what provided her with the visual enrichment that she brings to her decorating.

Jane's passion for art of all periods and mediums is what ultimately inspires her. She says, "Many museum buildings are architectural gems and are as precious in their own right as the treasures they hold." This kind of work is truly inspiring to her. In her spare time, she enjoys visiting the Nasher Sculpture Center, designed by Renzo Piano, and the Modern Museum of Fort Worth, by Tadao Ando. As Jane says, "Both buildings seem to take you out of time and place. Going to them makes me feel as if I am on a mini-vacation." Some of her favorite travel destinations are to small European museums that showcase one particular artist. "You get an intimate sense of whom they were and are able to see the actual environment in which they worked," Jane says. The Picasso Museums in Paris and Antibes are particular favorites, to which Jane has returned several times.

Jane enjoys taking on large-scale projects, even creating a 4' x 5' needlework rug of a Matisse-inspired nude figure after her bath that sits at the foot of her bed. She considers this one of her greatest achievements.

One of her greatest influences has been the home of her aunt and uncle, two visual artists. An eclectic wonderland of old and new, traditional and contemporary, classical and modern, they lived in an old house decorated with mid-century modern classics and touches of whimsy, filled with books and original works of art.

Favorite Design Achievements: Designing her own wedding in a dream setting of an art museum surrounded by classical Spanish "Golden Age" portraiture, with works by Velazquez, Murillo, and Ribera. She used clean, clear glass vases with arrangements of fruit and blooming branches to create a contrast to the ornate, baroque art; offset the somber colors of the art with striped coral, brown and lime green table cloths and simple white China; and mirrored the opulent style of the art by creating a still life composition in the cake decoration and table arrangement that stood as a centerpiece in the room.

Recent Tufenkian Installations:
1. Used the bold, autumnal color palette of a Tufenkian Inverness rug (as seen below) in an Arts and Crafts design to bridge traditional, transitional and modern elements in a dining room, creating both a warm traditional look and a contemporary feel consistent with the rest of the home.

2. Added a strong, exciting touch of unexpected modernity to a Texas Lodge-style living room (sofa upholstered in a wood blocked fabric of primitive bird design, traditional leather arm chairs, two-tier wrought iron candelabra chandelier, landscape photographs by Texas artist Charles Kruvand) using Tufenkian's Coconino design in a contemporary color field style.

3. Used a Tufenkian Loop Stripe rug with gradations of grays and blacks to achieve an elegant, graceful, welcoming entryway that sets the theme for the whole house and balances an eclectic blend of modern, antique and Texas.

Jane Waggoner Decorating Solutions is a current client of the Tufenkian Dallas showroom. Jane says, "With Tufenkian's clean lines, geometric patterns and rich, Rothko-like color fields, Tufenkian rugs are versatile enough to work not only in modern, but in traditional and transitional, or eclectic, settings."
